Nuremberg Christkindlesmarkt

The Hauptmarkt in the heart of the old town, in front of the Frauenkirche, filled with wooden huts under red-and-white cloth roofs. The market opens on Friday 27 November 2026 at 17:30: from the gallery of the Frauenkirche the Nuremberg Christkind speaks the Prologue while the lights around the square go out. The Christkind is a symbolic figure with blonde curls, a gold crown and a white-and-gold robe; it is chosen by a jury of representatives from the media, the state theatre, the city's market office and the city administration, for a two-year term — not by a children's vote. For the 2025/26 term, and so for this season too, it is Nora Falk.

What to eat and drink here

The three classics are Nuremberg Rostbratwürste — barely a finger long, grilled over an open fire, with more than 700 years of tradition — usually served as “Drei im Weggla”, three in a bread roll; Lebkuchen, baked in Nuremberg for some 600 years, in the Elisenlebkuchen form with a high nut content and now in vegan versions too; and mulled wine. At the Fleischbrücke stands what the city calls the world's largest Feuerzangenbowle. Guide prices from the 2025 season: mulled wine €4.50 plus a refundable €5.00 deposit on the mug, berry mulled wine €5.00, children's punch €3.50–4.00. From 2024: “Drei im Weggla” €4.50–5.00, Lebkuchen around €4.50 per 100 g, a shot of spirit in the mulled wine €2.00 extra. Prices are never official — each trader sets their own.
